About This Site
Martial arts, like other popular areas of life such as cars and fashion, have always been susceptible to times of being en vogue or not. During the 70s, in the height of Bruce Lee’s fame, Kung Fu was most popular then, through the 80s and 90s with people like Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal, Karate and Aikido gained prominence. Now, with the rise of promotions such as the UFC, Mixed Martial Arts are enjoying their time in the spotlight.
It is our belief, however, that no single martial art is inherently better than another, rather it is a combination of the knowledge of a skilled teacher, allied to the commitment and application of a willing student that come together to create an effective martial artist.
Equally, some martial arts work well in a given situation (such as in a ring), whereas others are better all-rounders, useful in all scenarios. Some help with health and fitness, whereas for others, their sole purpose is for the defence of the practitioner. All of these, and others, are factors to be taken into account when choosing which martial art to study.
It is worth considering that a highly skilled practitioner in one unpopular martial art may be more effective than a moderately skilled practitioner in a popular art for which they are entirely unsuited.
It is from this basis that this site was developed. We are martial arts enthusiasts, one who practices Kempo Jujitsu (currently at brown belt level), one who practices Aikido, and one who boxes. We’ve trained in Karate, Kickboxing, Tae-Kwon Do and have a voracious appetite for reading, with the martial arts being our preferred topic.
Please remember that everything you read is based around the opinions of the authors and so is not “fact” – it is simply a reflection of our beliefs.
We hope you find the site useful, and that it helps you to either begin or continue your journey through the study of martial arts.
