Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a tactical defence system designed to deal with real combat situations effectively and efficiently. It literally means “Contact Combat” or “Close Combat” and was developed by Imi Lichtenfeld from his experience in street fighting, defending the Jewish Community in Eastern Europe in the 1940’s. Its origins lay in Kapap, a Jewish system developed in the 30’s as a fighting concept rather than a fighting system.
Lichtenfeld used his experience in boxing, wrestling and Kapap to further refine his techniques into what became known as Krav Maga and disseminated this through the Israeli military and eventually the civilian population.
The techniques are based around threat neutralisation, defensive and offensive manoeuvres and aggressive counters.
Scenario based training is common, with students experiencing the stress of real encounters by exploring common threats and attacks.
